About these terms

These terms govern your use of the Marno mobile application. Marno is operated by Core Shift Studios, a bespoke software studio based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. By downloading or using Marno you agree to these terms.

The service

Marno is an AI-powered travel companion that helps you translate phrases, discover places, plan food and routes, and journal your travels. The app uses large language models hosted by Anthropic to generate responses.

Eligibility

Marno is not directed at children under 13. By using the app you confirm you are at least 13 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction. If you are in the European Economic Area, you confirm you are at least 16 years old, or have the consent of a parent or guardian to use the app.

Your account and your content

Marno does not require you to create an account. All progress, journal entries, photos, drafts, and cached content stay on your device and are not transmitted to us. You are responsible for backing up anything you want to keep — if you uninstall the app or change device, journal entries do not migrate automatically.

Subscriptions

Marno offers two auto-renewing subscription plans, each available as a monthly or annual subscription, plus optional one-time consumable boost packs.

• Marno Pro. Unlocks every region, removes the daily fair-use cap for translation and discovery features, and enables full access to the food, journal, and route-planning tools. Available as a monthly or annual subscription. Prices are shown in the app before purchase.
• Marno Pro Max. Includes everything in Marno Pro plus a higher daily AI cap, access to our most capable AI model for translations and recommendations, and a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. Available as a monthly or annual subscription. Prices are shown in the app before purchase.
• Boost packs. Optional one-time consumable purchases (50 or 150 additional AI requests) for users who want to top up beyond the daily cap without subscribing. Prices are shown in the app before purchase.

Auto-renewing subscription terms

These terms apply to Marno Pro and Marno Pro Max subscriptions purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Please read them carefully before subscribing.

• Payment. Payment will be charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase.
• Automatic renewal. Your subscription automatically renews at the end of each billing period unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
• Renewal charge. Your Apple ID or Google Play account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the price shown in the app.
• Managing and cancelling. Subscriptions can be managed and auto-renewal can be turned off by going to your Account Settings on the App Store (iOS) or to Subscriptions in Google Play (Android) after purchase. We cannot cancel subscriptions for you.
• Free trial. Marno Pro Max may be offered with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. The trial converts to a paid subscription at the end of the trial period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Any unused portion of the free trial period will be forfeited when you purchase a Marno Pro Max subscription during the trial.
• Pricing. The current price of each subscription plan is always shown in the app before purchase. Apple and Google may show prices in your local currency converted from our base UK price. We may change prices from time to time; you will be notified of any price increase in accordance with App Store and Google Play requirements before it takes effect.
• Refunds. Refund requests for App Store purchases are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Refund requests for Google Play purchases are handled by Google at play.google.com. We cannot issue refunds directly for store purchases.
• Fair-use limits. To keep the service affordable, free and paid tiers have daily caps on AI-generated requests. Current caps are shown in the app. Boost packs can be purchased to add additional requests for the current period.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use Marno to generate content that is unlawful, hateful, sexually explicit, violent, or harmful to others; to impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity; to attempt to reverse engineer, abuse, or circumvent the fair-use limits or paywall; or to provide professional translation, legal, medical, financial, or safety-critical advice on the back of its output. We may suspend access to the AI features if we detect abusive use.

AI-generated content

Marno's responses are generated by AI and may be inaccurate, outdated, or culturally insensitive despite our best efforts. Translations, food recommendations, route suggestions, and other content are provided for inspiration and convenience only. You are responsible for verifying anything important — particularly health, safety, dietary, and legal information — with a qualified local source before acting on it.

User content

Journal entries and photos you create in Marno are stored on your device. You retain ownership of your content. We do not access, transmit, or use your journal content for any purpose.

Intellectual property

The Marno app, its branding, and the curated region content (place names, photos, prompts) are the property of Core Shift Studios or its licensors. You may not copy, redistribute, or commercially exploit the app or its content outside personal use.

Third-party services

Marno relies on the following third-party services, each governed by their own terms and privacy policies. Our handling of any data we process through these providers is set out in the Marno privacy policy.

• Apple App Store and Google Play. Subscription and one-time purchase billing, and app delivery.
• RevenueCat. Subscription management and entitlement verification across devices.
• Anthropic (Claude API). AI model that powers the translation, discovery, food, and journal features.
• Cloudflare. Backend infrastructure that proxies AI requests and enforces the daily fair-use counter.
• Wikipedia REST API. Public read-only lookups used to retrieve place photos.

Disclaimers

Marno is provided on an as-is basis. We do not guarantee that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI responses will be accurate. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Core Shift Studios will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of Marno. Our total liability for any direct damages is limited to the amount you paid us through the Marno app in the twelve months preceding the claim.

Termination

You may stop using Marno at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these terms. Subscription cancellation is handled through Apple or Google as described above.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Northern Ireland. Any dispute arising from them is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Northern Ireland, except where mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence apply.

Changes

We may update these terms as Marno evolves. The effective date below tells you when this version was published. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance.
